Expectations had been HIGH ever since it was announced that Coldplay would perform in Seoul for 6 sold out shows. They had TWICE during the first show (and then dropped an annoucement of a collabo they're doing with them.)

PPL were like OJO to the max cuz it was a fact that Jin was gonna show up. After all, he'd released "The Astronaut", a pop rock "I'm going into the military, but I'll be back" song that featured Coldplay. AND, shortly before enlisting, he'd flown something like 40 hrs from SK to perform the song live at what ARMYs affectionately call ArJINtina back in 2022.

The reunion happened this past Saturday and everyone was floating on cloud nine...

NB: these two videos (though filmed in HD) are fancams. As such, there's a lot of v. happy screaming, plenty of flashing lights from the stage, etc. BigHit will most deffo release a couple of Bangtan Bombs abt these two performances at some point in the future. But this is what we've got right now, so that's what I'm sharing with y'all. :DDD

Jimin's talent level when it comes to dancing is TREMENDOUSLY HIGH. He lives and breathes dancing. It's not so much abt him doing some mind-blowing choreography and more abt how instinctual and connected his mind and body ARE whenever he's got the chance to move around.

The choreography for "Who" is sensual and full of beautiful lines, working to enhance the rhythm and general vibe of the song.

The FACT that Jimin himself was part of the choreography team is chef's kiss.

Here's the MV's actual choreo. LOOK AT HIM GOOOOO!!!

And finally, the one performance he's done for "Who" so far.

Closing out this year's Fannish 50 by squeeing abt Jimin feels quite in tone with the energy and mood I want to enter the new year with. Also, since this format has helped me be (moderately) active over here, I'm giving y'all the heads up that I'm most deffo doing yet one more iteration of Fannish 50 in 2025. \o/

Hope y'all have a safe, healthy, and happy 2025!

So, earlier this year, everyone was left SHOOKETH when BigHit announced a SECOND JIMIN ALBUM!!!

Granted, some of us did expect some type of announcement to drop given that there had been a part of the Minimoni conversations (which I talked abt here.) Although it WAS possible that Jimin would dig into FACE (his first solo album), it made just as much sense to think that he would eventually drop new music, IJS.

AND NEW MUSIC IT WAS!!! At times quirky, but always sweet, MUSE is deffo the flipside of his first album. It's also a kind of evolution as Jimin stretched out his skills to see what else he had to express via song.

Back in July, this dropped

This time, RM is having a convo with Jimin all abt MUSE and it's such a joyful watch, NGL! For starters, the tone is a little lighter than when the focus was on RM. Additionally, it was super great to see the back-and-forth between Jimin deconstructing his album and been addressed as a creative individual by RM. Like, yes, Jimin IS adorable, impish, a flirt, and v., v. sassy BUT that's not all there is to him. I've watched both episodes back to back and basically ヽ(✿゚▽゚)ノ to my heart's content.

"Who" was the lead single of the album. AFAIK, it's STILL tracking on the Hot 100 nearly 23 weeks after it first dropped. An all-English song, this is Jimin as an IT POP BOY. This is also one of the few songs that I've enjoyed every remix (the best ones, IMO, are the acoustic and Rock versions)

Trigger warnings: Lots of flashing effects and fast edits. Also the camera moves around a ton.

H/T to Bookish Theories for breaking down the song and MV

As of today (or abt 13-ish hours ago in KST), Jin's been a Good Chaotic KING for THIRTY-TWO YEARS (omg, he's OOOOOLD AF!*). Hence this post.

* I'm joking OFC. 32 isn't OLD at all. XD

A whole year and a half ago I posted abt the wonderfulness that is "Super Tuna". And, a little under two months ago, I did a post abt the 2024 extended version.

Since then, Jin's been B-U-S-Y. Not only is he still promoting Happy, his first solo album, but he's been a guest in a handful of shows. Such as Lee Mujin's Taxi Service. Behold 36 minutes and change of World Wide Handsome stunning Lee Mujin, heheh:

The album's pre-release was a v. pop-rock tune called "I'll Be There". This is a sub-genre where Jin's vocals ride in an amazing way. Especially when he sings live; there's some extra sparkage in how he performs even the cheesiest songs with a v. fun type of confidence. You can't help but be swayed by his EVERYTHING:

A little under a month ago (give or take a few days), Jin did a 2-day fanmeet/showcase thing with a live bande. It was also available for streaming for FREE NINETY-NINE (everyone's favorite price). In between songs, he played games with the audience. One of said things was to help him decide which is his best potential costume. The MOST RIDIC COSTUME WON...and he did an encore performance of "Running Wild" (the title track of his album) while wearing it.

Mild trigger warning for: lots of fan screaming and flashing lights.

I love him soooooooooooooooo much! <<3____;

SO, out of the six songs in the album, there's a clear breakthrough hit. A song that charms ppl into listening to it as many times as possible. I'm talking, of course, of the synthpop MASTERPIECE that is "Heart on the Window".

Not only does this song has one of the most FLAWLESS melodies and beats in any song ever, but it's also Jin's first duet with a female singer. None other but Red Velvet's Wendy.

And this is where I gotta pause for a second.

Cuz this is a TRUE SURPRISE in every sense of the word. Like I mentioned, it's a duet (he's done at least one with V once way back), but it's the UNEXPECTED TWIST of the other singer being WENDY? THE Wendy?! This in turn added a whole 'nother layer of WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA? Because SM Entertainment (Wendy's agency) is INFAMOUS for pretty much blocking any and every attempt to have her work with anyone that SME doesn't think "worthy."

This collabo happened pretty much by kismet. One day between late June and early July of this year, Jin was having a meal with a friend. They were talking abt Jin's upcoming album and the convo turned into how Jin should sing a song with Wendy. The friend happened to have Wendy's actual cellphone number, so they called her right then and there. Jin got on the phone and, after a bit of lulz, straight up asked her if she was interested in recording a song with him. She accepted and then this song happened.

Had Jin called SME's Division 3 (the team that's in charge of Red Velvet), he'd have gotten a flat out no. This isn't as much hearsay/goss-goss. SM Entertainment almost always drag their feet when it comes to promoting Red Velvet either as a group or individually. In the case of this song (which nearly any other company would've been super vocal abt), SME did the least effort possible in promoting the "Heart on the Window" performance of a song that's 100% beloved by anyone who listens to it. The ONLY thing they've done was post a pic of this performance on Insta. That's it. AFAIK, to be a fan of an SME artist means accepting that the company will do a poor job with everything (except the album packaging? #Unsure).

One super positive thing was seeing ARMYs and Reveluvs (Red Velvet fandom) teaming up to promote the song. Like, yeah, Kpop fandoms can be messy (all of them. Yes, even the ones that appear to be chill from the outside), so it's always v. heartwarming to see fandoms cheering each other on. NGL, I got v. 😀 abt all of the YAYS going back and forth across fandoms.

Anyways, all this to say that ppl were PERCHED AND R-E-A-D-Y for Jin and Wendy singing the fabulousness that is "Heart on the Window'. When I tell you I was ON THE FLOOR, TRYING TO KEEP MYSELF FROM CRYING MY EYES OUT CUZ THIS PERFORMANCE WAS EVERYTHING AND THEN SOME? XD.

FWIW, the synthypop aspect is v. diluted in this performance, with the sound taking a lite-rock sound that fits well. I heartily suggest listening to the original version of the song.

Kudos to the musicians in Team SUGA for performing with Jin too. ;___;

Happy Birthday, Kim Seokjin! You continue to be W.W.H. even as an Official Old (TM), hehehe.

So, as promised, Jin released a whole new MV (which he calls a "Special Video") for the 2024 version of "Super Tuna". It's even cheesier and WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY JOYFUL than the 2022 MV. I love it lots. It'll make you smile for realsies.

The first season of Suchwita came to an end with episode 27. I'm going to generalize a bit here and say that it had the one person most ppl (probably 95% of the fandom) wanted to see as a guest: Jang Yijeong, a.k.a El Capitxn.

Even though he's not part of the OG crew--which includes PDogg and GHOSTLOOP--because he didn't join Big Hit until sometime in 2017/2018, Yijeong is most deffo part of the Inner Circle within the BTS team (meaning the production side). He's been involved in a ton of BTS songs (including "Friends", "Telepathy", "Mikrokosmos", "Christmas Love", "Stay Alive", all of the AgustD' songs in D-2 and D-Day). In addition, he's also worked with other artists such as TXT, IU, Sumni, Epik High, PLAVE, TripleS, ARTMS, Zerobaseone, and has one songwriting credit for one of STAYC's songs in their upcoming first full album. DUDE IS BUSY AF!

One of the most interesting things for me has been seeing his public profile rise over the past 3, most deffo past 2, years. Including full scenes with Yoongi in the latter's Road to D-Day documentary and performing as part of the band during the D-Day tour The Final concerts in Seoul.

Anyways, what made this a super fun episode was seeing how well Yijeong connects with Yoongi via their shared music nerdery. They love to sit down and create music (as seen in the docu.) Theirs is a playful, almost sibling-like dynamic.

IMO, this is one of the BEST episodes of the entire season. Not only because Yijeong and Yoongi chit-chat abt their friendship, but also cuz there's a LOT of stuff that nobody but them knew abt. Frex, Yijeong used to be a member of a group called HISTORY. This group debuted a couple of months before BTS did back in 2013. However, Yijeong ended up leaving the group for reasons that hadn't been discussed in public until this episode. It was an intense thing to sit through ,NGL.

Yijeong mentioned how Yoongi became a good friend at a point where both men were dealing with some dark stuff in their respective lives. And, it was thru Yoongi that Yijeong's own second chapter as an artist developed even if he couldn't be a singer anymore. One curious thing was that Yijeong tends to defer Yoongi a lot even though they only have a six month difference (Yoongi was born March 1993 while Yijeong was born in early September of the same year.)

The only downside to the episode, Yoongi says his goodbye and officially ends S1 of Suchwita. Seeing the neon sign turn off made my heart twinge a little. FWIW, there were two recent pics by some white guy music journalist in the Suchwita set. So, as far as we know, the set has not been broken down. My hope and that of many, many, many ARMYs is that we'll get an OT7 episode. It better be an hour long or, like, a 2-part episode. It'll be so fucking epic!

And so, this is my final entry celebrating Boramonth. I might do some non-Kpop entries next. <3

Episode 26, the penultimate one from Suchiwita's first season, has actress and model Lee Sungkyung as the guest. This is a kinda double-surprise instance for two reasons.

1. It turns out that Lee Sungkyung and Yoongi have been IRL friends for a few years.

Per their conversation, they were introduced to each other at a mutual's party and, despite having rather opposite personalities (Sungkyug's extrovert to Yoongi's introvert), they found common ground somewhere and have continued to be friends.

2. In their friend circle, Yoongi's considered the maknae, i.e the youngest person.

Sungkyung brings up an interesting point in how, in BTS (while also implying in the Kpop world at large), Yoongi's position has always been that of a hyung or sunbaenim, i.e. the eldest. As it happens, there's only a few months' difference between him and Jin (the official eldest in BTS). So, Sungkyung ad the rest of her and Yoongi's friends do enjoy babying Yoongi. It's worth nothing that Yoongi IS the maknae in his blood family as he has an older brother.

The only reason why I know who Sungkyung is has to do with her starring role in Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo, a 2016 Kdrama that I started but never got around finishing it for reasons I can't remember at the moment.

In any case, this episode vibe is extremely casual. Viewers might feel like they're eavesdropping on someone else's convo. That said, I can't say that the episode left a huge impression on me or has anything that would make me consider rewatching it any time soon.

Winding down Boramonth with the last batch of Suchwita episodes for Season 1.

It so happens that ep. 25 had CNBLUE's leader and lead singer (and actor) Yongwha as a guest. I..have to admit that I'm not into Korean rock bands in general, but I'm aware of who CNBLUE is the same way I know of Day6 and Xtraordinary Heroes.

In any case, what I didn't know was that Yoong and Yongwha have been really good friends for almost a decade at this point! As much of an introvert and homebody as Yoongi might be, he sure knows a ton of ppl, LOL. Anyways, the convo in this episode focuses (aside from how their friendship began) in how success can be an obstacle of sorts for inner creative fulfillment, the enduring love of fans, and (as it's been one of the undercurrent themes) creating a legacy within the music world.

Both Yoongi and Yongwha are ridic candid AND we get some previously unknown deets abt Yoongi's story with BigHit to boot!

First off, we gotta go back to late 2020, i.e. BE era in the BTS timeline. This was a surprise album that was written, composed, and produced by BTS. On the obvious side of things, it's an amalgamation of their thoughts and experiences during Pandemic Year One. In a deeper level, the music also represented a promise from BTS to ARMY that things would get better at some point.

It's a lovely (yet sadly too short) album that showcases BTS' artistry in the most accessible way possible.

Given the global situation at the time, the album promotions took a bit of creativity. In one instance, there was the BE-hind full stories videos. In which we see one-one interviews between the members. It started with Jungkook interviewing Jin, then Jin sitting down with Jimin, followed by the video I'm linking below, Hobi asking Jungkook questions, V interviewing Hobi, Yoongi asking V some questions abt his music, and finally RM and SUGA discussing music.

FTR, I've only watched the episodes twice: once when they first aired in 2020 and abt 3 weeks ago. Both times, there were some that stood out more than other because of the way the conversation veered off this way and that. In the case of Minimoni, aka RM and Jimin, I was fascinated by how much of the convo focused on music production and the creative process.

Fast-forward to earlier this year when, as part of the v. random promo rollout for rpwp (RM's second solo album), he had a new convo with Jimin at RM's house in an episode of MMM Exchange (MiniMoni Music Exchange).

Some of it reminded me of their convo from the BE-hind Full story episode. However, the setting and casualness also pinged my memory back to the time he sat down with John Eun during the Indigo era. In any case, MMM feels more intimate cuz it features Minimoni. I got the sense that RM has finished recalibrating his emotions. This in turn means that he's much more direct abt certain things he'd kept quiet abt before.

Now, the first reason I'm reccing this is cuz it's MINIMONI. It's been MONTHS since they've appeared anywhere together.Secondly, Jimin's excellent at active listening. He communicates with RM in a way that makes it clear how well he knows RM. Frex, the one moment that made me SIT UP.

So, there's a point in their conversation in which RM mentions how there was a moment in 2023 when he was feeling adrift and dissatisfied with certain things. Indigo as good of an album as it was, left a lot of stuff out that RM wanted to convey to the listeners and fans. However, in order to give it a honest try, he had to put a lot of space between himself and the rest of the members. And I was like O___O because I 100% feel that, had this been pretty much any other other group*, it would have definitely and irreparably hurt both the relationships and dynamic a lot. Because it's not a great thing to see any member (let alone the leader) state that they need space. [*I'm more than sure that every group has had its ups and downs vis a vis the bond between the members because life isn't static and ppl do change over time. However, I haven't seen something like that discussed by members in a way that reaffirms that the group is stronger now that they've tested the boundaries of the relationships. IDK.]

In any case, the rest of the Tannies' response was "oh, okay, we'll give it to him BUT we will be here in case he needs something from us." Clocking that kind of… emotional intelligence? It was amazing to see Jimin and RM discussing it.

It's also a v. good insight into the flipside of not only being part of THE top group in the world, but also being THE LEADER OF SAID GROUP. Everyone wants to be no.1, the accolade, the fame, etc BUUUUUT there's a lot of stuff that comes with all of that that's not as readily discussed in K-Pop circles from the artists themselves.

Like, I'm sure that 1st and 2nd gen artists have deffo brought those things up (frankly, I wouldn't know). When it comes to 3rd gen (which BTS is a part of), enough time has passed from debut to 2024 that 3rd gen artists can say "this is how things have been, how things are, and what we hope things will be (in the future)". FTR, I think that 4th gen artists are starting to gain some of that perspective, but it's nowhere near 3rd gen artists. The passage of time matters a lot more.

It's so cool to see them talking abt what art means, how art can be expressed, and (in between) they also talk abt the personal.

Dingo Story is a web series in which Korean idols and actors meet a fan and then do some kind of activity together. Each episode is appealing to fans (oh, look how down to earth my fave is!) and locals (oh, (celebrity) is so nice!) all filtered thru the fans lens. The admittedly few episodes I've watched have been funny and sweet.

Last August there was an episode titled "Lean on Me". It's abt a young woman called Kim Hayoung who has been trying (and failing) to enter the military academy. Her fave idol happens to be V. She shows up at a cafe for what she thinks is a preliminary interview...only to end up up meeting V. After getting over her initial shock, the two of them have a nice convo and go to a nearby arcade for a while.

To me, this is one instance that shows just how lethally charming Taehyung actually IS. It's pretty obvious that he's really enjoying meeting a fan in a 1-on-1 basis. And, obviously, Hayoung is in cloud nine. The ending was extremely touching as well.

It's all of 13 minutes and change.

glitteryv: (Default)
So last month, RM dropped a surprise 2nd solo album called Right Place Wrong Person (or rpwp for short). It'ss a 34-min MASTERPIECE that's such an 180 from 2022's Indigo. I love the grittier path that RM's taken with rpwp. It's deffo way more experimental and adult (as in having a more mature vibe).

Anyways, as part of the promo rollout, he dropped a few MVs. Each one more cinematic than the next. Although I wouldn't say that the connections between them are super clear, it IS pretty obvious that they're all part of the same body of work.

I'm gonna add a cut here cuz this is a MV-heavy post.

Cuz I'm nice like that
Everything kicked off with "Come Back To Me", i.e. the perfect song to mellow out to. This was the album's title track:

Was it different universes/realities? Was it RM traveling thru time? I mean, whatever explanation you feel comfortable with is super valid.

Bookish Theories' video breakdown is pretty cool too:

RM followed that with a rather trippy MV for "Lost"

NGL, I had to watch this one a few times to figure out what the heck was going on, etc.

Here's Bookish Theories to, once again, shed some light on the storyline and how it connects to the song's lyrics:

IF there's a breakout song, it's deffo "Domodachi" (feat. Little Simz). It's much beloved. I mean, why wouldn't it be?

Let me cede the floor to Bookish Theories:

RM also dropped a more bare-bones type of MV for "Groin". Not only is the melody good, but THEM LYRICS, Y'ALL!!! He calls ppl out, asserts his personhood, and throws the kind of backhanded insults that would make me hide underground for a century or two.

AND he does all that while giving off chav!vibezzzzz too, hahah.

FINALLY, here's a live performance of "Nuts", i.e. what some (including myself) consider a most likely queer song... *points at the lyrics*. PLUS, you get to see RM in all his bleached, fuzzy-headed glory wearing the coziest sweater while being an absolute cutie. <3____<3

GOOD TIMES FOR EVERYONE!!! \o/!

On December 4, 2020, Jin released a ballad called Abyss. Co-written with BUMZU, this was a song abt Jin's anxieties and worries at a time he was feeling v. low. It's beautiful yet v. sad.

Then, on December 4, 2021, he decided to drop a minute-long song that became epic in ways I can barely quantify:

A trot song abt Jin's fishing dreams and desires (it's one of his fave hobbies), "Super Tuna" is something that, per his own words, was a silly thing he hoped ARMYs would like. For whatever reason, he never expected the tune to go viral not only in Korea but in social media platforms such as Twitter and TiKTok. Much to Jin's embarrassment, heheh. [Jin is, like all ppl, a complicated person. Yes, he can be shameless a lot of times, but he has his awkward turtle moments. Also, per his own admission, he's both shy AND an introvert. BUT, he's also quite impulsive and good/neutral chaotic at times. LIke I said, he's not just BTS!Jin, but a full human being.]

Here's a subtitled video abt how big "Super Tuna" became. The 6:23 video begins at 2:23 as that's the segment that shows what I'm talking abt. The section before that is abt Jin's reaction to ARMYs celebrating his birthday during one of the Permission To Dance Onstage concerts in Los Angeles.

Anyways, this past Thursday, as part of the 2024 FESTA celebration of BTS' debut being 11 yrs ago, Jin (who had only been discharged from the military THE DAY BEFORE) held a long fanmeet that was divided in 2 sections.

The first part was a 3-hr session where he hugged 1,000 fans. Yes, ONE THOUSAND. Per his own request. O__o.

The second session was a one-hour, more formal event in which he played games, talked to the audience (both in person and the folks watching it via streaming), and sang 3 songs. Which, again, HE DID ALL OF THIS THE DAY AFTER COMING BACK TO THE MILITARY. GOODNESS GRACIOUS!

As expected, the first song he sang was "The Astronaut". He closed the fanmeet with a beautiful rendition of "Moon". I was a mess of tears from the start of the stream, but I can attest that his singing was AMAZING. This was also the first time he'd performed "Moon" in front of a live audience and only the second time he sang it live. With the first time he did that was for the ON:e concert back in October 2020.

ANYWAYS, in between those other two songs and all the cute games he played, he performed "Super Tuna". And, like, that's already an excellent thing. BUT THEN, SOMETHING MAGICAL HAPPENED: HE SANG A WHOLE SECOND VERSE!!!!

I'VE WATCHED THIS MANY TIMES AND I STILL END UP SQUEEING TO THE POINT OF DIZZINESS, NGL! (TW for a lot of happy screaming, some flashing lights, and mild pyrotechnics.)

The amount of JOY this performance has brought into my life, y'all!!! One randomly wild thing is that Jin had asked BUMZU if he could help him write that 2nd verse. Then he recorded a guide, learned the new lyrics, rehearsed it, and performed in a space of 24 hrs. Wow! * ____________________*

According to him, this extended version will have an official drop at some point in the near future. I cannot wait to listen to it and make it go 20x platinum in my house, hahah.

ANOTHER HAPPY MAKING ENTRY FROM V!!!

This time, he pretends to be a "cat butler", i.e. a cat owner, to LOLARIOUS EXTREMES. A lot of Taehyung's public persona involves a moderate inability to be embarrassed. Coupled with his prelidection for roleplaying, his interactions from the v. start of the episode made me giggle lots.

At some point, the rest of the ppl chose to indulge Taehyung (without knowing WHO he was). Anyways, this is one episode I've rewatched a ton of times when I want a mood booster.

Because this has to do with the bond between pets and their humans, there are moments when everyone talks abt their pets' health. I'm throwing a mild (?) trigger warning for frank discussion of pets being ill from 15:00 to 18:00.

My mini-Boramonth celebration is off to a late-ish start. For that I "blame" the onslaught of content that's been dropping since the start of the month + some IRL stresses.

ANYHOO, for the first of BTS-centric posts, I'm sharing a v. special Pixid episode that features Jimin pretending to be a provincial fan.

For starters, Jimin is ADORABLE AF both while hiding among the other folks as well as after he's revealed. Another thing I like is seeing depictions of what non-Seoulites ARMYs have to deal with as soon as a concert or tour is announced. Yes, it's true that they're In South Korea, but there's still a TON of traveling and logistic expenses that most I-ARMYs would never consider.

Am closing out both this rollercoaster of a year AND the Fannish 50 posts with one of the most wonderful surprises ever: goddess incarnate IU's guest episode in Suchwita.

Earlier in the year, SUGA had appeared in IU's Palette show, cheekily throwing a challenge of sorts down that IU would have to appear in his interview show if the YT views ever reached 10M. FWIW, they're a little over 7M at time of this post, so fairly close to the target number. :P

In any case, I almost couldn't believe it when the teaser dropped and, boy, did I ended up astral projecting out of the sheer JOY that it was seeing IU and SUGA chit-chat for nearly an hour! As of right now, this is the officially longest episode at 43:50. NGL, I could've rolled just as good had the episode been the full hour and 40 mins of footage.

A lot of the episode focused on IU's fantastic 15-year career, her observations on where she'd like to go next, the UAENA fandom and her connection to it, and (ofc) her 2 collabos with SUGA. For his part, Yoongi added in bits abt his own experiences doing solo concerts, songwriting obstacles and triumphs, etc.

This being a Suchwita ep, there were also a few revelations that left me SHOOKETH. And, like many UAENA out there, I am hoping like whoa that IU does get to go on a tour. It'd be a SUCH A DREAM to see her singing live-live, heheh. ANYWAYS, what made this such a lively episode was IU and SUGA's back-and-forth. Theirs is a connection of artistry, talent, and intense sibling energy. Given that they're both 93z, the flow of the convo switched from informal to formal (which was neat to see) with a lot of snark from both IU and SUGA.

FWIW, I'm not quite sure IF I'll be doing this challenge in 2024, but who knows, right? ANYHOO, thank you to the folks who have commented on my K-Pop ramblings thru this year. I hope 2024 is a safe, happy, and fun year for everyone. <3
glitteryv: (Default)
NGL, I've had to the most to calm the fuck down in order to do a post with a semblance of coherence. Because, this was one of the most happy surprises this show has ever done.

Cuz the idea of SHINee's TAEMIN BEING A GUEST ON SUCHWITA????? LORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRDE! (❤ ω ❤)

*Calming down*

On top of seeing him and SUGA interact, what makes this a MUST-SEE episode can only be brought up bulletpoint style:

* Taemin and Yoongi are both 93z--something that, as mentioned by both of them, is a rarity in K-pop. Not many 1993 folks became idols.

* Taemin is his group's maknae while Yoongi's considered the second oldest (after Jin). So their idol experiences are v. different w/r/t the members' dynamics.

* Taemin is also technically Yoongi's sunbaenim (senior) since SHINee debuted 5 years before BTS.

* Both are v. influential for different reasons that each admire in the other.

It's not like Taemin and Yoongi were total strangers. More like fellow idols who would chit-chat in a general way while doing their respective promotions. If anything, Taemin's connection to BTS is usually focused on his v. close friendship with Jimin.

*Takes a deep breath*

WHICH MAKES JIMIN'S RANDOM APPEARANCE HALFWAY THRU THIS EPISODE A MILLION TIMES AWESOMER. From then on, there's Taemin and Yoongi's nascent friendship, Yoongi and Jimin's bond (no explanation needed), Taemin and Jimin's besties' vibes, and all three having a friendly convo.

This is deffo one of those episodes I've rewatched a few times cuz the tone is lulzy, the conversation goes from introspective to casual, and the overall mood is extremely cordial.

glitteryv: (Default)
Another batch of Suchwita episodes! This time following the them of older folks and SUGA discussing different facets of being an artist.

Kim Namgil's episode is, sadly for me, among the least-watched. Mainly cuz he's a TALKER. So for every short question SUGA will throw at him, Kim Namgil will take eons to answer. One interesting thing is that he is one of Seokjin's close friends (to the point of appearing in the last episode of Jin's show abt traditional Korean alcohol. OTOH, Kim Namgil is a multihyphenated human being, so there's also that.

Then there's Kim Jongwan, main vocalist and guitarist of the Korean band NELL. SUGA and Kim Jongwan have been friends for a while. Also, for those who might not know, Jongwan also sang in AgustD's D-2 song "Dear My Friend". He has a uniquely sweet voice.

FTR, the bulk of this episode centers around the creative burnout, choosing one's path while navigating the music business, and how to prepare concerts so that the audience will have a great time. NELL has been around since 2001, so there are parts of the episode that mention what longevity means as well.

Uhm Jungwha is Suchwita's second female guest. It's a v. memorable episode, NGL.

For starters, like the other two guests I mentioned before, Jungwha has a long career (acting debut in 1993, singing debut in 1996.) She's gone thru a lot of ups and downs, influencing a lot of idols to this day, and has truly earned her legendary status.

Even though I wasn't familiar with her work, I've watched this episode in particular many times. Jungwha and SUGA's convo is tremendously charming. It's lively and fun in a way that's extremely refreshing to watch in terms of difference in ages, genders, and experiences. I highly, highly rec this episode.

Bonus fact: Uhm Jungwhat was among the 100 or so folks that Hobi personally invited to the listening party for his Jack in the Box album. I really love the fact that Hobi connects with folks from all aspects of the Korean entertainment business, IDK.

How abt a double-layered return to Suchwita? ;)

Filmed on September 3rd (but not airing until Nov. 4th), episode 21 of SUGA's talk show had the first guest to do a second appearance: Jungkook sitting down to have some noms in between talking abt his solo adventures. Early on in the episode, Yoongi acknowledged that Jungkook's first ep was a bit chaotic because, realistically, he (JK) only had one song to promote.

This time around, he had a full album plus several performances to chit-chat with his hyung. As much as I loved the loopy vibes of JK's first episode, I really preferred the way things flowed this time around. The conversation had more depth (in terms of Jungkook's own musical tastes and colors) with some funny asides. ON TOP OF THAT, Jungkook drops a v. mild spoiler that he and Jimin filmed some kind of travel vlog show at some point this year. #EXCITE

Even better, halfway thru the episode, Yoongi sat up and turned around, calling Taehyung from his hiding place. So the fun vibes went up a few levels and everyone (including the viewers) had an even better time.

As a bonus, here's an 18-minute surprise concert that Jungkook did on Times Square on Nov. 9th of this year:

Hahah, here I am all shiny-eyed and bushy-tailed to talk abt a v. specific video that anyone who is at the crossroads of K-Pop and fan of dancing will most probably enjoy as well!

So "Facts in Fiction" is a fairly new YouTube channel that does technical-yet-interesting breakdowns of idols' dancing. The video linked below caught my eye cuz I'd been wondering what kind of rankings would the boygroups at HYBE would get if one was to take a SRS BIZNESS approach. It's worth nothing that this video was posted in early April 2023, so Boynextdoor is not included in the list (as they hadn't even debuted yet.) And neither is SEVENTEEN. This also makes sense as SVT's dancing is on a whole 'nother level (and that's something that even I, an ARMY, can deffo admit to.) FWIW, there this other video that touches on SVT's technique, etc in case you're wondering what does the person running this channel (who is obviously involved in the dancing community) has to say abt them.

Let's say you're interested in other groups. Well, the channel also has dance analysis videos for NewJeans, aespa, Red Velvet, blackpink, Twice, ITZY, EXO, and ZEROBASEONE.

Back to this video, though.

One of the reasons I'm reccing this is that OP's approach to every person mention starts from a point of compassion and respect. So, everyone gets praised for the things they're good at/have improved on circa debut. And that's followed by actually constructive criticism on the technique (such as why certain habits might lead to sprains or worse due to the pressure on the leg/foot/muscles.)

Now, as for the ranking themselves...I do agree with all of them except for the 10 and 11 positions. IMO, they should've been reversed cuz the guy ranked as no.11 does have a smidgen more talent (IMO) than no.10. It's not a dealbreaker and yet, every time I've rewatched this video, I tend to pull a bit of a Muppet Face when no.11 is presented, hahah.

Anyways, it's a longer-than-expected video (clocking a little over 46 mins.) but the list does include 19 ppl total.

Here you go:

V being the guest in Suchwita episode 18 completed BTS' individual members' appearing in the show. There were a ton of high expectations. Not only because V (like most of the members) didn't do a ton of in-person interviews (off the top of my head, I can only think of 2 Japanese shows and 1 episode of Yoo Quiz) during the Layover promo cycle. Just like the rest of the members, his involvement in the entirety of his first solo project was deep; so much of it was a good representation of what V sees as great ways to connect with ARMYs and any future/casual fans as well (see V-icnic, his fangsign event; inviting ppl (while in disguise) to see him sing; and v. few appearances in Korean web shows.)

Suchwita was an excellent platform for him. Not only because of his friendship/bond with Yoongi would put him at ease, but because everything abt that show invites some degree of self-reflection and personal insight.

The thing abt V is that he's the kind of person who has a v. unique way of moving thru life. Or, better said, he's a loveable weirdo who also happens to be TREMENDOUSLY handsome, LOL. However, by sitting down with Yoongi, he could let go and be as candid as he felt comfortable with. Secure in the knowledge that his hyung wouldn't trip him up or push him in uncomfortable ways.

This results in an episode in which V and SUGA discuss the 2018 burnout; V's process when it came to working on the album (including why he chose to work with songs others had written for him); the general vibe of the entire album; his friendship/dynamic/bond with Yoongi as well as with the rest of BTS, etc.

There's also a LOT of hilarity cuz, if there's one thing that Yoongi does when it comes to interacting with the maknae line is BE HELLA CLOWNING with them. The way he's so terribly indulgent with Jimin, Jungkook, but especially V always leaves me feeling a ton of emotions as well as quite light-hearted.

Unrelated to the episode, here's a lovely performance of "For You"

And now, my posts abt Suchwita hit pause once again! That said, the Fannish 50 (with a few of them being BTS-centric) will continue. :DDDD
