Although I'm a baby Cubic, I feel v. comfortable stating that Hoshi is the best male dancer in Kpop nowadays. Additionally, SEVENTEEN happens to be the no.1 group when it comes to dancing. It's true that opinions (especially those that work in absolutes) are v. subjective at times. But, that's where I've landed w/r/t dancing in this genre. One that's already populated with excellence and grace wherever you look.

It did take me a while (I want to say until sometime last year?) for me to click with this group (tipping my hat to my friend M. who has been encouraging my slow-mo falling for this group. Your Carat wiliness has thus been rewarded, hahah.)

In any case, there was absolutely no way I wouldn't mention this group in at least one of my Dance Practices posts. Like, come on, now!

Hoshi leaves me breathless more often than not
I have vageuish memories of reactions to the "Spider" single on my TL. A love song of sorts in which Hoshi tells the listener that he's trapped in his lover's web...but that he really doesn't mind being in such a 'predicament', "Spider" is a good song. One, I feel that showcases the tremendous heights Hoshi has reached when it comes to dancing in general.

The Dance Practice

Seriously, what else is there to say other than WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!! Hoshi hangs upside down, gets dragged, moves around the background dancers' complicated moves, and on and on. THIS was the choreo that made me go WAIT A MINUTE, THIS HOSHI DUDE IS RIDIC TALENTED, WTFWITHBBQSAUCE!

The Live Performance

Trigger warnings for flashing lights, intense camerawork that's part and parcel of Korean music shows. Also spider imagery.

*Throws hands in the air* Hoshi, everyone!

The Music Video

Trigger warnings for lots of visual f/x + spider imagery.

SEVENTEEN

The two main things to know abt this group (when it comes to dancing, that is) are:

They are really good AND their synchronicity is, at times, otherworldy

Two recentish examples below.

This the dance practice for their Golden Disc Award performance of "Don Quixote". NOW y'all see why I've placed them at the top spot dancing-wise? This is so mindbogglingly good not only because of how in sync everyone is but also because of the sheer number of ppl onstage.

The performance is, sadly, a bit muddled but still worth checking out:

If only they had gotten brighter fits! Alas.

For a modern dance angle (with several moments of Kpop formations), you need to look no further than "Fallin' Flower":

Such dreamy moves! The literal flower shapes! I cannot with them, really.

Here's a live performance:

In short, SEVENTEEN is a group that never, ever disappoints when it comes to displays of Top Tier Dancing. :D

One last post tomorrow to close out the theme. Woot!
