Ahhh, this is so exciting! *clears throat*
OK, OK! So, this month's theme will be dance practices!!! 💃🏽🕺🏽💃🏽🕺🏽💃🏽🕺🏽
FTR, I deffo have rhythm/can shimmy with the best of them/am not embarrassed to shake my booty when a good song comes on. THAT SAID, one of the things that got me HOOKED when it came to Kpop was seeing idols' dance practices. Obvs, each of the ones uploaded (and that I'm going to share throughout January) are the best or most polished version regardless of the members being in sweats and wearing no makeup.
Personally, I lean into strong and sharp (with some sprinkling of athleticism if it fits the theme/aesthetic/song) over softer and cute dance styles. The posts will be a mix of boy groups and girl groups (with some groups having multiple entries cuz I feel like it, LOL.)
Gonna kick things off with my BTS dudes (of course) and the SONG THAT LEFT ALL ARMYS LITERALLY @ ______@ IN 2022 (PLUS A BONUS CUZ I'M NICE LIKE THAT.)
Although I'm not someone who tends to generalize when making statements, I'm close to 100% sure that, when ARMYs heard "Run BTS" playing for the first time, everyone (metaphorically?) threw themselves on the floor cuz of how AMAZING THE SONG WAS.
In some ways, I see it as a mix of past!BTS (meaning the heavy rapline) with the current!BTS (playfully assertive due to their long career). ANYWAYS, no mv was ever made and, despite how popular the song became, they never performed it in music shows. In part cuz it contains a bit of cussing (one of the lines RM says has the word "goddam".) Folks were bummed out. BUT THEN, late summer, one of the members (I wanna say it was Taehyung? I might be wrong, tho) semi-casually mentioned there being a CHOREOGRAPHY for "Run BTS". LE GASP!
One month after the one and only performance of it, they uploaded the dance practice to their YT channel:
WHERE TO BEGIN???
I mean, there's the dancing itself: precise, aggressive, and doing that thing where it tells the story without being too obvious. There's Yoongi wearing his long hair in a half bun (OH, LORDE, SOMEONE PASS ME SOME SMELLING SALTS!). Jimin's sweater is barely there. Everyone is focused. Jin is adorbs (he changes his hands gestures to something v. cute between 3:08 and 3:11) yet careful (such as when the handkerchief he throws ends up landing in the space between his feet and Jungkook's. It's a legit MIRACLE that no one slipped on it, really). IT'S PERFECTION FROM START TO FINISH.
Trigger warnings for the following 3 videos: Lots of flashing lights and lasers. Plenty of intense background graphics on the screens. Also sudden camera movements (zooming in, zooming out, tilting).
Here's the (to date) sole performance during the Concert in Busan last October:
AND, for funsies, this is ANOTHER video of the same performance. Adding a 2nd trigger warning for fans screaming and scream-singing along. So, you know, adjust the volume accordingly.
The reason why I added this video is cuz it's shot far enough we're able to see how well everyone keeps the beat while performing. Also cuz we get the Vmin VMMINING moment at the v. end. Aww!
Now, for a BONUS, here's an AWESOMECAKES video of the rapline performing "Cypher Pt. 3: Killer". This video combines officially streamed footage with what some in-situ fans filmed. Even better: if you select the captions option, you too can read up on the eye-rolling good lyrics. \o/!!! A solid win for everyone. BTS' rapline is, in my extreeeeeeeeeemely humble opinion, fascinating, magical, and unparalleled. The video starts with Yoongi saying "This is my time"...I just... LASJDFOWAEIIFJKVN;KXNVWEIF. See also whenever any of the 3 say "Fuck you, I don't care/You can't control my shit", my brain goes like so: (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
ANYHOODLE, this is a great example of what I mean:
I remember crying because the joy I felt while watching this live (via streaming) was so immense. NGL, I still get goosebumps and my heart does soar every single one of the 745225565651545574 times I've rewatched this video. So, you know, I wanted to share that with y'all. :DDDDDD!
