Kep1er is a 9-member girl group off the Girls Planet: 999 reality competition show 2 yrs ago. Their original debut date (early December 2021) got pushed back abt a month due to some of the members testing positive for the 'rona. They debuted during the first week in January 2022. Suddenly, Kep1er was all Kpop folks would talk abt.
IIRC, the ONLY thing my brain retained was that Huening Bahiyyih is TXT's Huening Kai's younger sister. IMO, they look like twins. :P
Anyways, between general BTS stuff + other rookie girl groups that kept popping up, I legitimately forgot abt Kep1er until the awards show season (so around November). Happened to watch them perform and was immediately like "huh, that was cool." A few days later, I was listening to some 4th Gen playlist when several Kep1er songs played one after the other. The rest is history.
FTR, I have ZERO idea, LOL.
In some ways, I get the impression that this group is exactly what non-Kpop listeners imagine this genre to be: bright and peppy. And, all right, that IS true in some ways. Kep1er is here to offer up a little distraction from the darker parts of life. I don't mind it because we all deserve to have (at the v. least) a spot or two of happiness.
The music video
Trigger warnings: TONS of camera work. Also several visual effects from beginning to end including flashes, quick cuts, etc.
I love the OTTness of this video. From the random sparks shooting out of the members' hands to the random bits of teleportation. In some ways, I see this video a good showcase of Kep1er as a group. More abt them showing a united front vs. showcasing one member over all others.
As for the song, I love all of the melodies. The fact that the chorus takes a totally unexpected turn always leaves me tickled pink. No idea why, hahah. When it comes to the actual lyrics, this is a song in which Kep1er makes it v. clear that they've arrived and are determined to get to the top. They're also inviting the listener to run along with them. Like most (if not all) of their songs, this tune is meant to make you shimmy.
The dance practice
Two things come to mind w/r/t this choreo.
1. Talk abt DYNAMIC. The members legit don't stop moving around as soon as the song kicks off. There's also a lot of stomping. Oh, and I love the small detail of a member doing some version of \o/ whenever there's a "hey" or "yeah, yeah" in the background.
2. The synchronicity! Wow. (That's all).
NGL, the only part that I'm ???? abt is the random hand squishing movements during the chorus. My initial thought was that it had to do with something in the actual song, but that's incorrect. They're just squishing/grabbing air for no reason at all.
The performance
Trigger warnings: Many stage lights and random zooming in.
Out of the many I've watched, this one remains my fave. Filmed mid-September 2022 during KCon LA, this is Kep1er and the fans having fun. And I'm not only talking abt those who got to do part of the choreo onstage with the group. The fact that you can HEAR all of the fans singing along + everyone's enthusiasm + the intense energy of the song = a performance that's made me tear up every other time I've watched it.
Like, I'll be the first to admit that the first minute or so is super cheesy. Expected, even since it's clearly edited by Mnet folks. What actually got me EMOTIONAL was seeing artist and fan in a communion for a brief moment in the quasi-eternity of the universe. Sometimes I'm a sap, LOL

Okay, so what the hell does Wa Da Da mean?
