TW/CW of pandemic talk, US elections talk, and deaths. Nothing graphic or too intense, but I'm choosing to warn regardless.

Over the past year:

1. What art did you turn to?

*points at Kpop*. I've got more than enough content to wade through even before I go into fanworks. Also, my YouTube watching remained strong (though I ended up unsubscribing from a lot of pop culture, MCU-centric, and makeup channels by around late April.)

I barely made my GR goal because of a SEVERAL MONTHSLONG reading slump. 2020 was also the year I consumed the least amount of Western media. I think I watched abt 5 new movies total? As for TV shows, I watched S2 of The Mandalorian, Wandavision, and the first episode of Hotel de Luna.

2. Did you have any particularly bad ideas?

Much as I tried to curate it, I still got into some grody moments of watching the news abt the pandemic. Once October came around and the US Election ramped up, I had a few terribs moments of wanting to know what was happening politically. Even tho a lot of it ended up making me hella anxious.

3. Did you find a friendship that sustained you artistically?

YES! All of the usual suspects and a few new ones too. Y'all know who you are. <3

4. What's 1 thing you made this year?

I learned how to make a cloth facemask, by hand, out of pillowcases. By the point I needed facemasks, they were sold out EVERYWHERE. The thing was I needed at least two (so I could rotate them) for when I went grocery shopping and to the laundromat. So I headed over to YouTube and watched a few videos.

Sadly, 2020 was HORRIBLE for my creativity otherwise. I think I only completed 2 out of the many exchanges and challenges I'd signed up for as late as February. :(

5. What's a moment from this year you will always remember?

There are two in particular:

- Once the lockdown began in March, I can recall going to the grocery store during the Monday morning rush hour and NO CARS BEING AROUND. It was quiet to the point of being hella freaky. That this quiet went on for three months was chilling, really.

- After staying up for almost 20 hrs for Day 2 of BangBangCon, telling my friend M. on Discord that I was going to take a nap (cuz there were still abt 6 hrs to go.) But then, something happened onscreen and I was WIDE AWAKE (if a little delirious.)

6. If you'd known you'd be so isolated for so long, what would you have done differently?

Hmm, probably stock up on disinfecting wipes and toilet paper as soon as the first COVID-19 cases were reported.

FTR, things in my immediate neighborhood didn't get AS DIRE as it did in other places. We never ran out of food, for one thing, but paper goods would get snapped up as soon as they hit the shelves. I learned when the deliveries would happen so I could get me a few rolls. Same with the disinfecting wipes.

Also, I had less of a hard time being isolated/in lockdown. As long as I had internet and food, I was okay.

Please note that I'm NOT saying it was an ideal situation (I had a few family members--including my 87-y.o. grandmother--who got infected. And it was v. much touch-and-go with all of them until they got better.) Plus, there were 3 older family members who passed on (from non-COVID related causes) and there was no funeral for any of them because, you know, PANDEMIC.

ADDING to that was the mess of conspiracy folks, racists going into overtime, and the previous US administration doing the most to pretty much destroy everything and everyone.

As a result, my mellow vibes began to breakdown around November. I'd say that the stress and anxiety of the US Election (counting the votes, the Clown being an idiot, etc) deffo added to my feeling pretty close to empty emotionally and psychologically by then.

7. What do you want to achieve before things return to normal?

*stands on the biggest soapbox she can find* GET VACCINATED ALREADY!!!!! I'm being v. patient and understanding as the rollout continues, but GEEZ, I WANT TO GET MY VACCINE(S) SHOT SO BADLY!!! ;______;
