glitteryvSo I watched S1 of The Fall sometime late last year. Had wanted to get back to finishing the rest of the series (I only had 12 more eps to go), but didn't get around it until recently. Bingewatched all 3 seasons and basically floated on a lot of major and minor feelsplosions.
And then I got ~moderately obsessed with its amazing + creepy, nightmarish + feminist mood. Sadly, for me, there's a dearth of fic (and the situation is even more dire for Gibson/Anderson, my fave ship in the show). :(
In any case, I was on YouTube and stumbled on many videos for the show. #ThankYouVidders
These are my top 5. I've watched them, downloaded them, and thought it'd be neat to share them with y'all.
Now for some **GENERAL WARNINGS**
- Videos have SPOILERS for Seasons 1 and 2 of The Fall only. (The S3 videos I liked didn't fit--thematically speaking--with this post.)
- Photosenstivity warning: all videos have visual effects such as fast edits/cuts, strobe effects, distortion effects, and flashing lights.
- CONTENT WARNINGS: The Fall is a police procedural centered around a woman-led detective team trying to catch a serial killer. Although none of the videos below include scenes of the actual murders, there are a few that do have some mature content. I'll indicate them individually with time stamps.
HAVING SAID ALL THAT, the theme of this post is Stella Gibson being awesome. #JustRollWithIt
* Fuck My Way Up by Iamoverjoyed (2:37, Pairings: Stella/James Olson, one-sided Paul Spector/Stella Gibson)
Content warning for this video: Quick scene from 1:21 to 1:32 that include a drawing of a naked woman in a submissive position and fast shot of a bound and gagged woman on a bed. Stella Gibson drops an F-bomb at 1:31.
This is, without a doubt, MY FAVE VIDEO FOR THIS FANDOM (not to mention, one of the top 10 videos I've seen this year). Like, I could legit sit down and hammer out a 1000-word essay where I deconstruct this video including why I think it's awesome and how it gives me all the feels. [Between you and me, I might have a tentative draft that's clocking at around 600 words already. /o\]
(But I wouldn't want to bore y'all #LOLsob)
Suffice to say that EVERYTHING about this video is ABSOLUTE PERFECTION and so full of feels, omgwithbbqsauce.
* Midnight Sun by Parillayoung (3:31, Pairings: Stella Gibson/Feminism, Stella/James Olson, Stella/Tom Anderson, Stella/Dr. Reed Smith, Unrequited Stella/Jim Burns, Stella/Danielle Ferrington, one-sided Paul Spector/Stella, Stella/Larkin, Eastwood/Common Sense (LOL))
Content warning for this video: Lots of curse words from the v. start and also sexual situations all throughout.
Jim Burns tries to assault Stella at 1:16 to 1:18 (she deflects the attack). Burns is shown from 1:35 to 1:36 with a bloody nose.
If you have a crush on/love Gillian Anderson, then seeing her as CANONICALLY BISEXUAL Stella Gibson in this show will most deffo be a treat. The fact that Gibson's incredibly direct personality extends to her sexual side is ten kinds of amazing.
This video kicks off with her dropping one of those Gibson-esque comments that will leave you <3_______<3
AND THEN, we see her with the canonical people she hooked up with (or wanted to get in bed with) as well as a few might-have-beens, the creepster serial killer falling for her (in his own way?), and the one dude who (mentally) facepalms at his boss and her hookups.
I love how this video looks at Gibson at her most sexual without judging her. It also has good pacing and the song choice is excellent too.
* I Need My Girl by CandiceHere (2:34, Pairing: Stella Gibson/Dana Scully)
Content warnings: Selfcest.
Also gun violence within the first 5 seconds of the video (featuring a gunshot wound). A quick sequence hinting at two women having sex from 1:19 to 1:24
Let me be the first one to say that is a ridiculously well-made video that blends two different IPs (The Fall and The X-Files) into a neat What If episode that's on par with the emotional temperature of both shows, i.e. more bittersweet that not.
It's really cool to see how someone created a video in which Dana and Stella have a prickly but understanding relationship. Once again, great song choice.
* Find a Way by Mermxids (2:12, Pairing: Stella Gibson/Reed Smith)
Content warnings: FTR, Reed is a pathologist. There's a quick flash of a naked male corpse from 1:43 to 1:45. The body--which shows no wounds--is face down.
This is the kind of shippy video in which you can appreciate seeing some of bits of the storyline for Stella/Reed. This time, told by Stella at her most introspective (perhaps hopeful?). The song is hurty in a way that doesn't quite break your heart.
* Unstoppable by Iamoverjoyed (2:31, pairings: Stella/Feminism, Stella/James Olson, Stella/Reed, minor one-sided Paul Spector/Stella)
Content warnings: Stella fends off an assault fromsad sack Burns from 1:36 to 1:39 (this includes a quick shot of his bloodied nose)
It's funny that the first AND last videos are by Iamoverjoyed (someone who, unfortch, hasn't posted anything new in at least two years. But I digress). Although less 'technically' eye-popping when compared to "Fucked My Way Up", this is a fantastic video that depicts STELLA/BADASSERY.
Her competence and strong sense of justice are all over the video. It's quite clear why this one made it to the top 5.
Feel free to rec more fanvids for The Fall, even if you think I've already seen it.:D
