This year has been the second year in a row in which girl groups have been dominating the Kpop music landscape. So many great rookies and returning veterans dropping awesome song after awesome song and wowing everyone with fantastic performances.
Everyone has their likes and dislikes. I totes get why some ppl might dismiss girl groups cuz they think their music is fluff (said in a derogatory way). But the truth that no many want to admit is that girl groups keep the Kpop industry going. Despite how some fans and locals tend to discard older groups in favor of rookies.
This video essay from felt2000 focuses on how there have been occasions when companies push their girl groups to the forefront to distract from scandals, make a ton of money off them, and then push them off what's referred to as 'the glass cliff'.
A thoughtful, well-researched, and spanning a lot of different eras and girl groups, this might not be an uplifting video essay. But I still appreciate the starkness and freedom that comes from telling the truth. Because, for me at least, it makes me appreciate girl groups that much more.
