Fandom 50 Post 4: BVNDIT ☠

glitteryvI'll be the first to own up that I genuinely didn't even know abt this group's existence until they dropped "Venom."
BVNDIT was a 5-member group that debuted in Spring 2019. They released a whole bunch of music until sometime in mid-2020. Then, everything stopped. Obvs partly due to Panini Year 1, but also their agency is a small one (there are 4 soloist and one other group as of 2023). And then, one of the members joined Girls Planet 999 (a competition show) in 2021.
All of this combined meant that BVNDIT didn't have a proper comeback until late 2022. That's...a long time (by Kpop standards). Even worse was the fact that the agency announced in early November 2022 that BVNDIT had disbanded (since the members chose to not renew their contract.) FWIW, I'm unsure why their contract was so short (I think the standard is 5 years nowadays (though it can be as long as 7 years too.) Someone plz correct me if I'm wrong abt that.)
In any case, they leave behind a v. interesting (if short) discography. Also that, for all intents and purposes, "Venom" was a really good point to end their career on.
The dance practice
As I said before, I like seeing girl groups do what could be defined as 'strong' dance moves. BVNDIT's members showcase a good mix of fierce dance steps with flourishes of flirtatiousness. All the while keeping up with the boom-boom-boom of the song.
Before I link to the music show performance, let me add a few trigger warnings for lots of flashes, intense background graphics, and sweeping camera work.
I'm always in awe of how effortless all the members look once they're onstage. (There's a whole process abt appearing in music shows--including several rehearsals--that is grueling.)
FWIW, I'm gonna add an extra trigger warning for the "Venom" MV.
Now, IDK if it was the fact that this was the last MV for this group or what, but the f/x department used up all of the budget and then some. Everything abt this mv is extremely disorienting. Off the top of my head, you'll see:
- Tons of visual special effects including: glitches, distortion, jumping between video formats, a heap of graphics.
- OTT camera work: upside-down; tilting; swooping; zooming in and out; shaky cam
- One of the members wears a leather jacket that might trigger anyone who suffers from trypophobia. There are close ups and slowed down shots of it. As you can see in the thumbnail below. /o\
PLEASE BE CAREFUL IF YOU HAVE ANY KIND OF PHOTOSENSITIVITY. This is a really well edited and shot MV, btw. It's just meant to shake you up. Combined with the hyper-beat of the song, it might turn into an unpleasant experience FAST.
