On December 4, 2020, Jin released a ballad called Abyss. Co-written with BUMZU, this was a song abt Jin's anxieties and worries at a time he was feeling v. low. It's beautiful yet v. sad.
Then, on December 4, 2021, he decided to drop a minute-long song that became epic in ways I can barely quantify:
A trot song abt Jin's fishing dreams and desires (it's one of his fave hobbies), "Super Tuna" is something that, per his own words, was a silly thing he hoped ARMYs would like. For whatever reason, he never expected the tune to go viral not only in Korea but in social media platforms such as Twitter and TiKTok. Much to Jin's embarrassment, heheh. [Jin is, like all ppl, a complicated person. Yes, he can be shameless a lot of times, but he has his awkward turtle moments. Also, per his own admission, he's both shy AND an introvert. BUT, he's also quite impulsive and good/neutral chaotic at times. LIke I said, he's not just BTS!Jin, but a full human being.]
Here's a subtitled video abt how big "Super Tuna" became. The 6:23 video begins at 2:23 as that's the segment that shows what I'm talking abt. The section before that is abt Jin's reaction to ARMYs celebrating his birthday during one of the Permission To Dance Onstage concerts in Los Angeles.
Anyways, this past Thursday, as part of the 2024 FESTA celebration of BTS' debut being 11 yrs ago, Jin (who had only been discharged from the military THE DAY BEFORE) held a long fanmeet that was divided in 2 sections.
The first part was a 3-hr session where he hugged 1,000 fans. Yes, ONE THOUSAND. Per his own request. O__o.
The second session was a one-hour, more formal event in which he played games, talked to the audience (both in person and the folks watching it via streaming), and sang 3 songs. Which, again, HE DID ALL OF THIS THE DAY AFTER COMING BACK TO THE MILITARY. GOODNESS GRACIOUS!
As expected, the first song he sang was "The Astronaut". He closed the fanmeet with a beautiful rendition of "Moon". I was a mess of tears from the start of the stream, but I can attest that his singing was AMAZING. This was also the first time he'd performed "Moon" in front of a live audience and only the second time he sang it live. With the first time he did that was for the ON:e concert back in October 2020.
ANYWAYS, in between those other two songs and all the cute games he played, he performed "Super Tuna". And, like, that's already an excellent thing. BUT THEN, SOMETHING MAGICAL HAPPENED: HE SANG A WHOLE SECOND VERSE!!!!
I'VE WATCHED THIS MANY TIMES AND I STILL END UP SQUEEING TO THE POINT OF DIZZINESS, NGL! (TW for a lot of happy screaming, some flashing lights, and mild pyrotechnics.)
The amount of JOY this performance has brought into my life, y'all!!! One randomly wild thing is that Jin had asked BUMZU if he could help him write that 2nd verse. Then he recorded a guide, learned the new lyrics, rehearsed it, and performed in a space of 24 hrs. Wow! * ____________________*
According to him, this extended version will have an official drop at some point in the near future. I cannot wait to listen to it and make it go 20x platinum in my house, hahah.
