Fannish 50 S2 Post 5: Eunchae 💜 Sumni
May. 16th, 2024 01:23 pmFirst airing in November of last year, this is one of my fave episodes. There's a lot of nervous excitement from the start (Eunchae herself doesn't quite know how to keep herself calm) and, once Sunmi shows up, the two of them get along incredibly well.
Eunchae was one year old when Sunmi debuted as a member of Wonder Girls. Once she went solo, Sunmi's continued to put all types of music and fascinating MVs year after year. She's v. involved in the process (including songwriting); something that adds an extra layer of uniqueness to Sumni's music.
So it's no wonder that Eunchae's literally 😍😍😍 at Sunmi from the get go, hahah. Meanwhile, Sunmi is friendly and, without meaning to (maybe), she slips into a gentle mentor persona. At times v. frank abt what her life was like as one of Wonder Girl's maknaes.
It's a lovely episode that touches on things such as Kpop generations' approach to success and the price everyone pays in return all wrapped up in a delightfully soft conversation.
At the time, she was promoting "Stranger" which is, imo, one of the most experimental songs in her discography. Like many ppl, I wasn't a fan of how discordant the overall song was, but (because I know the Universe like to keeps things in balance) I'm sure this is some folks' fave song. Who knows?
