Yeah, Ilona Andrews' weakest points usually involve the sex scenes (they're v. het and kinda cheesy in a way that makes me roll my eyes a little.) I do wish they'd involve MORE queer and POC characters in their stories.
Also, it was their worldbuiling what made them one of my fave authors. It's always pitch perfect. I'm planning to crack the Edge series this year. Dunno abt the Inn Keeper one. As in: I'll eventually read it too, but it's not a top priority.
Unfortch for me, the only genre I really enjoy in audiobook form is the mystery/thriller. Something abt the romance genre just makes my brain go NOPETUS MAXIMUS. That said, many folks have mentioned how great the IA audiobooks are. :D
